CEDARVILLE, Ohio (AP): An Ohio college pharmacy professor is investigating whether certain plants could hold the answer to new treatments for cancer and other diseases.

Cedarville University pharmacy Professor Denise Simpson is in the beginning stages of a research project at the college’s new health sciences centre.

By collecting plants in Ohio and testing them in her lab, she hopes to determine what substances in them are effective and how they can be used to treat more people.

Simpson told The Dayton Daily News that she’s been researching the healing capabilities of plants since 1999 when she was in graduate school in Jamaica. She said several plants in Ohio haven’t been researched, and others have not been examined in-depth.

Cedarville University, with about 3,400 students, is east of Dayton.
