(GIU) – The Ministry of Health this week is hosting Dr. Lanval Joe Daly an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, who will be conducting clinics for clients as well as teaching medical staff.

Dr. Daly is a native of Montserrat and has 30-40  years of experience in medicine. This week he is attending to numerous women who have been in need of care from a gynaecologist as Montserrat has no resident specialist.

Later in the week, Dr. Daly will hold a continual education seminar for doctors and nurses on cervical cancer. This Thursday at 6:30pm, the public is being invited to a seminar on Cervical Cancer and HPV at the St. Patrick’s Credit Union Hall in Brades.

The Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) are a group of more than 150 related viruses. More than 40 of them can be easily spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during sex. High-risk HPVs cause virtually all cervical cancers and some types of HPVs can cause genital warts.

Thursday’s lecture is designed to answer the questions of who is at risk, how to reduce the risk of cervical cancer, and whether the HPV vaccination can protect you.
