A new teaching hospital is in the works for Grenada. The island’s government has secured funding for a new teaching hospital from the Chinese government and other partners and will join the St. George’s University in its establishment. This is according to Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. the Hon. Keith Mitchell.

Mitchell made his remarks as part of a three-city tour which includes the Deputy PM and Minister of Legal Affairs, Elvin Nimrod as well as Health Minister Dr Clarice Modeste-Curwen and Government Advisor and former foreign affairs minister Peter David.

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Keith Mitchell said Sunday that that the new teaching hospital would be a “first class facility” and will put Grenada on the map as it relates to medical tourism.

In addition Mitchell said that Grenadians and those living in the diaspora would also be able to secure top medical treatment at the hospital.

“We are ready to go,” Mitchell told a town hall meet in New York on Sunday. “The benefits are going to be enormous.”

The former Grenada administration had mentioned the possibility of a new teaching hospital but at that time had only mentioned SGU as a potential partner.

At the Sunday meeting the island’s former Consul General to NY Derrick James was also named the new ambassador to the United Nations with responsibility for humanitarian and diaspora affairs.
