Trinidad MOH welcomes Chinese health team to twin-island republic

Healthcare professionals from the Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing, renowned for its expertise in Neurosurgery and Neurology, have been assigned to the South-West Regional Health Authority have been welcomed to Trinidad by Dr Faud Khan, Minister of Health in Trinidad.
The team will enhance the neurosurgery practice in this region said Khan and is comprised of broadly experienced team which includes:
• 1vascular surgeon
• 1 vascular ultrasound technician
• 1 interventional cardiologist
• 1 general surgeon
• 1 pneumonologist
• 1 neurologist
• 2 neurosurgeon
• 1 operating theatre nurse
• 1 anaesthetist
The Minister of Health, Dr. Fuad Khan commended the team for their solidarity. According to Dr. Khan, team effort is key to having excellence in surgery.

“In order to achieve the excellence of medical care at that level of surgery, also referred to as a super speciality acquired surgery, it is needed to have a team,” Dr. Khan said.

The partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and China was initially discussed during the visit of His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China to Trinidad and Tobago in 2013.
Under the Memoranda of Understanding, Trinidad and Tobago will have the services of these medical specialists for a period of two years, with a new team rotating every six months.
