Seventh imported zika case reported in Cuba

The seventh imported case of zika virus has been reported in Cuba. The patient is a 36-year-old Cuban comprehensive general medicine specialist (MGI in Spanish), who arrived in the country from Brazil on March 22, and is a resident of the city of Guantanamo. Although she has not presented symptoms, by being 28 weeks pregnant on arriving from Brazil, she was selected immediately after arrival for screening at the Angel Arturo Aballí Hospital in Havana, and sampling for zika, which was sent to the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK by its Spanish acronym).

On March 26, the IPK laboratory reported that the real-time PCR performed on the patient at the time of admission was positive for zika virus. She remains asymptomatic.
