Cabinet to discuss lifting Brazilian meat ban

The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to make recommendations to the Cabinet today about whether the ban on meat from Brazil should be lifted.

Several countries including China and Hong Kong have resumed the importation of poultry and meat products from Brazil.

Moments before heading into the meeting, the Health Minister Molwyn Joseph told Observer Media that the Cabinet would discuss whatever the Agriculture Ministry puts forward and make a decision.

The ban was imposed late last week following news that Brazilian inspectors had been bribed to certify rotten and salmonella-tainted meat for export.(The Daily Observer)
