“From the moment our patients walk or are carried through our doors, they must know that they are valued,” advised Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority Darlene Carty Baptiste.

As head of the Authority, Carty Baptiste has control over all public health facilities here in the territory, including Peebles Hospital.

Stating that it is time for change, she implored health practitioners to display compassion and respect as is promised in their Service Charter and Patients’ Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.

“We must not just talk about enhancing our quality and delivery of our services, but we must strengthen our efforts and effectively deliver client-centered healthcare promised in our mission.”

Carty Baptiste also noted the fact that the Health Authority recently partnered with HIMAHealth for specialist services.

“I am proud that this platform is provided for us to speak on sensitive issues like death and dying,” she said.

“Although this is an inevitable part of our work here, it is never an easy task and I look forward to the shared experiences and knowledge, as I intend to, and encourage all of you to take advantage of this free opportunity and reap every benefit possible.”

Carty Baptiste threw out the challenge yesterday during a development conference spearheaded by the Health Authority, in conjunction with Cancer Treatment Centers of America® and Covenant Point Institute of the US Virgin Islands.

The two-day professional development training that is entitled ‘Caribbean Journey of Hope Clinic’ focuses on integrative care and crisis response.
