The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital now has teleconferencing capacity. On Tuesday, September 3rd the KHMH officially launched the service which comes as a result of donated equipment by the Carolinas Healthcare Systems, Heineman Foundation and BTL who provided a 4 Meg dedicated connection to the hospital.
According to Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Gary Longsworth,  the launch was the culmination of efforts which started at least two years ago. He said that the equipment will bring great benefits to the KHMH since it can be used in many areas including training, consultation with patients, collaboration on projects with medical practitioners all over the world. It will also allow for the institution to store and retrieve data on I-cloud. The “technology will basically bring physical distance to zero,” he stated. The equipment, he explained, can be moved around the departments in the hospital including the operating theaters, radiology department and others.

Public Relations Manager at BTL, Dr. Dionne Miranda, explained that BTL was all too happy to assist the KHMH since it is BTL’s belief that healthcare is something that should be readily accessible. Miranda said that the equipment and the 4 Meg connection will allow for this to happen, since it will allow the KHMH to have full audio and video communication over the internet.
