ANTIGUA AIDS SECRETARIAT GETS DONATION FROM BANK

By Caribbean Medical News Staff

The AIDS Secretariat of Antigua and Barbuda has benefited from a gift from the Global Bank of Commerce, Ltd. (GBC) this week.

This gift followed a drive that came out of a visit by AIDS secretariat staff Dr Maria Pereira and Mrs Delcora Williams who visited the popular The Paula Show hosted Paula Lee. The show was so successful that staff members of the Secretariat decided to raise funds alongside awareness. The Bank matched the amount raised by staff and in a presentation on November 5th, the Bank donated the funds to a grateful Mrs. Williams.

According to Mrs Sasha Southwell, the response of the staff was also an inspiration to the Bank.  The Bank also made a commitment to support the Secretariat and its initiatives on an on-going basis which included food drives on a quarterly basis.

Meanwhile, the Caribbean Partnership Against HIV AIDS (PANCAP) said that there had been a general reduction in the new number of HIV infections in the Caribbean, testimony to the Caribbean’s islands’ individual drives and educational and awareness plans and the work of PANCAP.

PANCAP reported these findings at the recently concluded meeting of National AIDS Programme Managers, Senior Health Officials and HIV and AIDS Regional partners held in Port-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from 21-23 October 2013.
