BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (27th November, 2013) – Organizers of the “BEST OF ASCO” Medical Conference to be held in Barbados this weekend, says all is in place for this major event, which has been attracting a host of professionals locally regionally and internationally.
CancerCaribbean, a new cancer services company in the Caribbean region, announced the inaugural Best of ASCO Event in the Caribbean, December 1-2, 2013.
The Opening Ceremony of the two day session will be held on Sunday December 1st 2013, at the Barbados Hilton beginning at 9 am.
Barbados Health Minister Hon John Boyce will deliver the Keynote address. Director of CancerCaribbean Sarah Louden will also address the opening.
Barbados is the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean to host this conference. The two day conference will be held under the theme: “Building Bridges to Conquer Cancer”.
President of the Barbados Association Medical Practitioners Dr. Carlos chase will give remarks at the opening ceremony.
A special emphasis will be placed on Prostate Cancer and Urological issues in Caribbean men with a panel the Caribbean’s best Urologist lead by Barbadian Dr. Jerry Emtage, Dr. Barlow Lynch, Dr. Jeetu Nebnhani and Dr. Dwayne Thwaites from Antigua.
Research, prevention and treatment of cervical and ovarian cancer will be presented by Dominica’s Dr. Sophia George, Dr. Garth McIntyre and others and they address the issue of these sometimes deadly and avoidable “below-the-belt” cancers.
A range of local and international presenters will cover select issues in cancer including paediatric cancers, neuro-oncology, palliative care and breast cancer. Presentations cater to medical professionals, allied health and those involved in patient and survivor care.
Doctors attending, have expressed pleasure in learning that they will be awarded Continuing medical education (CME) cme credits for taking part in this timely conference.
The Value of Civil Society in Driving the Policy and Programming Priorities of Cancer to ensure its place on the National and Regional Agenda is of utmost importance and it’s a topic that has over the years garnered attention, and will be addressed at the conference.
