St. Kitts & Nevis Faith Leaders Unify Against NCDs

The St. Kitts and Nevis Alliance for Health Actions, recently supported Faith-based collaboration to advance actions for healthy lifestyle modification.
NCDs have been declared epidemic by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and member countries of CARICOM have been working assiduously to temper the rise in NCDs and complications arising out of this set of illnesses.
The meeting was supported by the HCC through the NCD Alliance/Medtronic Philanthropy funded programme: Strengthening Health Systems, Supporting NCD Action.
Ms. Petrinella Edwards, St. Kitts and Nevis Non-Communicable Disease Coordinator, reported that the day was a success with 37 participants representing FBOs. Major outcomes included: Twenty-one leaders signing the Commitment Statement and the identification of a 9-member multi-denominational action committee which will have its first meeting in the second week of October.
The Barbados NCD Commission hosted a similar meeting in February 2014.
During this meeting 26 FBOs adopted the Declaration of Bridgetown by acclimation.
