Barbadian manufacturing company takes the lead

Healthy Caribbean Coalition says that the Barbados Heart & Stroke Foundation is often called upon to endorse safe and healthy products in Barbados.
And now Mrs Gina Pitts CEO of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados says their endorsement of products is not to increase sales but to ensure that products meet certain quality, standards and labelling criteria.
According to HCC which works closely with the Foundation, endorsing a product is at times challenging because there are many components to the endorsement including, content, labelling, serving size and quality assurance in manufacturing.
The Foundation was recently asked by a local milk manufacturer to endorse their line of dairy products. Although the products met most of the criteria, there was an element missing but only in the labelling. Labelling is, however, important.
The head of the unit listened to their recommendations and has since changed the labelling to include the first edition of the traffic light labelling style, highlighting the content in one serving size, in an easy to read set of white bubbles, all of this within 2 weeks of their meeting.
HCC and the Foundation say that the organization is to be congratulated on listing appropriately in an effort to further educate the consumer and provide important information to shoppers of products for consumption.
