Grenada government denies reports of three gastroenteritis infant deaths

The ministry of health in Grenada has denied reports that three babies had died as a result of gastroenteritis at the General Hospital last weekend.
In a press statement on Wednesday, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) said it had learnt of the deaths of three children over the weekend at the General Hospital, reportedly from gastroenteritis.

The NDC called for the immediate resignation or dismissal of the minister for health, Nickolas Steele.

However, according to the government, one infant/toddler (and not three babies as claimed by the NDC) died on the weekend in question after being cared for at the General Hospital for a period of three days.

An autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death of the infant has been undertaken and the revived Death Review Committee met to determine the circumstances and events surrounding the untimely passing of the infant at the hospital. (Caribbean News Now)
