Barbadian Athlete Reports Successful Treatment In Cayman

A fit and athletic Shawn Denny aggravated a shoulder injury during his regular CrossFit exercise routine and after much research left his Barbados home to seek medical help at Health City Cayman Islands. He is delighted with the choice he made.

Questioned about his experience, he has nothing but positive reviews, but there is one question Denny cannot answer: “They asked me to name one person that stands out. I can’t name one person because every nurse and doctor I came in contact with were very nice.”

On top of the treatment he received at Health City, Denny said the excellent value for money was hard to match: “One of the contributing factors of me choosing Health City is the cost. I think it was very reasonable and (they gave me) value for money. For the time that I spent here and with the medication, the MRI, the scan and everything in total it was really cheap compared to if I had it done in Miami or even in Barbados. They gave me a bundle (price) and the bundle was really cost effective.”
Dr. Alwin Almeida, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon and Joint Replacement Specialist, noted not all patients require surgery but all patients can consult Health City and get an opinion and try out things that might just help them recover without surgery. “Unfortunately for Shawn, non-operative treatment suggestions did not really work for him,” he noted.

Shoulder arthroscopy is indicated for injuries that involve the surrounding tissues, such as injury to the rotator cuff or a labral tear. This is a minimally invasive procedure in which a tiny camera (arthroscope) is inserted into the shoulder joint in order to diagnose and treat conditions.

One thing is for sure, according to Dr. Almeida: “If a potential patient does their homework and communicates well with us, we at Health City can give him or her the very best course of treatment which might even avoid surgery, and certainly save them precious resources whatever the course of action they choose.”
