Appointment of New CEO of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc

The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Fiona Anthony MBA BSc (Hons) MCSP MPPC as their new CEO. She assumed responsibilities on January 9th 2017.
“We are very excited to welcome Fiona into the position of CEO and the Board of Directors is confident that she brings the necessary skills and experience to lead the Foundation in our fight to reduce the prevalence of Chronic NonCommunicable Diseases within our society,” said the President of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc., Mr. Humphrey Metzgen.
Mrs. Anthony said (that) she was honoured to have been selected for the position and looks forward to further developing the mission of the Heart & Stroke Foundation ‘to keep people heart healthy and reduce the suffering from heart disease and stroke. ‘
Mrs. Anthony relocated from the UK to Barbados in 2003 after a 10-year career in the National Health Service in the UK as a Senior Physiotherapist specializing in the rehabilitation of patients with complex medical problems, particularly heart disease and stroke. On her arrival to Barbados, she took a position with the international pharmaceutical company, Sanofi, and had the opportunity to be responsible for the regional sales and strategic marketing of a portfolio of products for the treatment of cardiovascular conditions throughout Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
Fiona’s clinical physiotherapy skills, pharmaceutical experience and a growing interest in the area of the prevention of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases fueled her passion to move into healthcare administration. Following the completion of her MBA, she was responsible for the management of a Surgery and Birthing Centre in Barbados.
Fiona’s career to date has formed a strong desire and passion to be able to contribute to the improvement of the health and well-being of the Barbadian population and she is excited to be able to utilize all of the skills and experience acquired throughout her career in the position of CEO of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc.
Fiona holds a First Class Honours Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Manchester, UK and also holds an MBA with Merit from the University of Durham, UK.

The organization was founded in 1985 as the Heart Foundation of Barbados, but in 2006 embraced stroke to become the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados.
Its programmes include the provision of training in Emergency Cardiac Care for persons in the medical profession, also for the general public, as well as specific monitored rehabilitation in its Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation programme for persons who have had heart surgery, a heart attack, heart failure, a stroke or are at risk of those conditions.
Mrs. Anthony said that the objectives of the Foundation include but are not limited to the following:
Provide a state of the art cardiac rehabilitation unit service which is internationally accredited.
Assist with the Governmental NCD strategy targets especially with childhood obesity.
Be the leading NGO on cardiovascular matters.
Food and beverage security for adults and children alike.
A commitment to ensure that there is a legal framework which supports smoke free spaces.
Preventative cardiovascular screening access to those who are deemed vulnerable and low income.
