Doctor caught at roadblock after DEADLY hit-and-run

A prominent Berbice doctor was arrested at a police roadblock Sunday evening after he reportedly fled an accident scene in which a woman died.
Dr. Ramesh Sugrim, 60, of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Benn at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, West Coast Berbice to face charges of failing to stop at the accident scene and failing to render assistance. He is likely to face charges of causing death by dangerous driving. The matter is now engaging the attention of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A 51-year-old Foulis, West Coast Berbice, Marslyn True, reportedly died on the spot at MoorPark, Number 37 Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to reports, around 20:15 hrs on Sunday, a policeman travelling behind the doctor saw the accident and noted the car number PMM 8310. The vehicle had continued driving.
Contact was made with the Fort Wellington Police Station where a roadblock was quickly set up and the doctor was apprehended.
Police on Sunday said that “investigations have revealed that the driver of motor vehicle PMM 8310 was proceeding along the roadway, allegedly at a fast rate and collided with the pedestrian.” The doctor was reportedly placed on bail yesterday.
