The Ministry of Health Belize is pleased to be a sub-grantee on the project “Improving prevention and treatment systems based on primary health care for alcohol use problems in two Caribbean Countries – Guyana and Belize’ funded by Grand Challenges Canada to the Grantee Ministry of Health, Guyana.”
The overall objective of the project is to implement and improve on the delivery of health services for people with hazardous and dependent alcohol consumption in Belize and Guyana by training health professionals to evaluate how, with minimal resources at hand, these services can be best delivered and used by the population. The ultimate goal is to reduce hazardous alcohol consumption in the general population.
The Ministry of Health Belize was awarded a sub-grant in the amount of $756,365 Canadian Dollars. The funds were disbursed in 2012 and are expected to run the project through to August 2015.
Grand Challenges Canada is dedicated to supporting bold ideas with big impact in global health. It is funded by the Government of Canada and funds innovators in low and middle income countries and Canada. The project awarded is among fifteen innovation projects awarded last year to improve mental health diagnosis and care in developing countries.
