ST JOHN’S, Antigua- To the numerous accounts of inability to conduct screenings due to equipment failure at Mount St John’s Medical Centre must now be added incapability to perform blood tests.
OBSERVER media has learnt that for upwards of two months, the country’s lone public hospital has been without the reagents necessary to carry out many of the basic tests physicians require to diagnose and treat outpatients.
Among others in short supply are reagents to test for glucose, liver and kidney function, and electrolytes– all baseline tests necessary
before doctors can diagnose and prescribe treatment.
