Barbados- lifts temporary ban on imported Poultry products

By Caribbean Medical News Staff
The temporary restriction placed on the importation of poultry and products from a few countries has been lifted. The announcement was made by the Veterinary Services Department of the Ministry of Agriculture.

All temporary restrictions placed on the importation of live birds, hatching eggs and on fresh, frozen and chilled poultry meat products, including table eggs for personal use and commercial sale, will be lifted for the United Kingdom and other member countries of the European Union with the exception of the Netherlands and Germany.

Restrictions are still in place for the United States and Canada. This is as a result of the ongoing outbreak of the contagiously High Pathogenic Avian Influenza.

For people who are infected with the Avian Influenza A Virus, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) currently recommends oseltamivir, peramivir, or zanamivir for treatment.

Please remember to always check with your medical doctor.
