Dominica health Minister says waste management is critical

The Hon. Minister for Health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux is stressing the importance of the jobs of the staff of the Dominica solid waste management corporation.
As Health Minister, he says nothing can undermine the work of the employees in ensuring the health of the citizens of the country.
The Hon. Minister for Health accompanied the Hon. Prime Minister to hold discussions with staff of the Corporation on Monday.
“I understand the importance that the management and staff of the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation play in the whole scheme of national development. Obviously if there’s no one to collect the waste, the country can be catapulted into chaos for health and sanitary/ hygienic reasons. I just really want to let them know we do appreciate the work that they do.
Hon. Dr. Darroux says going forward; his Ministry will explore options to make the corporation more sustainable.
“I have had the opportunity as health minister to visit a number of recycling plants around the world where garbage; both organic and metallic, can be put to use even to produce energy, water heating facilities etc. What I’ve done so far as minister is [discussing these options] with management of DSWMC to see how we can chart our way forward. As minister they will get my full support and they’ve also gotten the commitment of the Prime Minister to see how we can address some of these concerns, “he explained.
Waste also provides an opportunity to make money. (DM GIS)
