An Educational Conference will be the main highlight of activities to commemorate 50 years of Nursing Education in Dominica.

Organisers say the activities will run from October 28th to November 01.

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the Dominica State College Denise Edwards says the activities will seek to educate the public about the value of formal nursing education in Dominica.

“Our three main presenters are graduate alumni’s who have received doctorates. They were breastfed here exclusively for the first three years in their nursing life”.

“As we honor them, we hope to inspire our younger graduates and current students. This confidence we know will translate to the provision of quality care, to individuals, families and communities while enhancing the development of the nursing profession in Dominica,” she added.

Other activities include a church service, the commemoration of a magazine, an educational conference, an awards dinner, an oldie goldies dance and a reunion river revelry.

The event will be held under the theme for the celebration  “honoring our Heritage; Celebrating our Successes”.

Nursing education in a formal setting began in Dominica in 1962 in what was then called the Princess Margaret Hospital School of Nursing.
