PRIVATE MENTAL CARE

If the Director of the country’s lone psychiatric hospital gets his way the facility will have a private ward where paying clients can take care of their mental health needs.

Clarence Pilgrim said the institution would continue to offer services free of charge to those who cannot afford to pay but he stressed that there is a niche that must be tapped.

The Director dismissed suggestions that a private mental health facility should not be housed at Clarevue because of the stigma already attached to that facility.

He said the compound has more than enough room on which to accommodate both types of care.

Pilgrim had asked government for over 14 million dollars to help push through projects this year but received only 4.7 million.
