PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – The St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) never received any subsidies from the St Maarten Government.
That is according to the current director of the institution, Dr Scott. In 2002/03 the hospital was in debt and assistance was requested by the then director to the Government, and according to the current director of the medical centre, all the monies received from the St Maarten Government were considered a loan.
Dr. Scot’s revelation came during an extensive interview on the program side view with Wendell Moore.
According Dr Scott, when he started his tenure as director of the SMMC, there was a deficit of 26m guilders, and a cash flow shortage of 260, 000 guilders per month; but as of 2006 the finances were regulated and they were able to get back on track.
