ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA – Approximately thirty thousand dollars (EC$30,000.00) were raised by the Ministry of Health and Social Security, through a national health telethon in aid of healthcare, on July 4th.

The objective of the telethon was to raise funds to purchase much needed medical supplies, important medicines and equipment in the discharge of healthcare services to the Grenadian people.

There were pledges from several top government and health officials including Prime Minister – Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell.

Health officials say the initiative was a success and that the Ministry will continue in its efforts to raise as much funds as possible.

At the end of Thursday night’s telethon, Health Minister Dr. the Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, thanked the many people for their pledges and support towards the development of healthcare in Grenada.

According to Dr. Modeste-Curwen that level of patriotism sends the right message that Grenadians are willing and prepared to do something for themselves, especially in relation to healthcare. The Grenadian Health Minister is confident that with such a positive and caring attitude many people will be willing to assist Grenada.

Meanwhile several persons who participated in the exercise have endorsed the initiative and are encouraging the Health Ministry to hold another telethon or some other fund-raising activity, since many of them may have missed the opportunity to make their contribution.
