Cayman will soon open a 140-bed tertiary care hospital in Grand Cayman early 2014.
According to their website, Health City Cayman Islands is scheduled to accept its first patients in early 2014, will open as a Center-of-Excellence in cardiac surgery, cardiology & orthopedics.
Over the next decade, the hospital plans to expand to a 2,000-bed facility, and expects to be a JCI (Joint Commission International, USA) accredited facility providing care in major specialties including neurology, oncology and other cutting edge tertiary care disciplines, the hospital says. The complex is also planned to have a medical university and an assisted-care living community.
Health City Cayman Islands is the vision of famed India heart surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty. As Chairman of Narayana Health, he oversees a network of 14 hospitals across India. Narayana Health, is joined in the first phase of the project by Ascension Health Alliance, the largest private not for profit health network in the United States.
Other Ascension Health Alliance subsidiaries focus on service areas including physician services, global mission support, treasury management, innovation acceleration, venture capital investing, and medical engineering.
According to reports Ascension Health Alliance’s Strategic Direction incorporates an outward promise to those it serves to deliver Healthcare That Works, Healthcare That Is Safe, and Healthcare That Leaves No One Behind, for Life, by the year 2020.
Among many key initiatives, Ascension Health has been exploring ways to adapt the success of NH and Dr. Devi Shetty in providing high-quality healthcare at lower cost to U.S. healthcare. The Health City Cayman Islands initiative gives Ascension Health Alliance the opportunity to positively impact the care being provided in the Caribbean region and to examine what can be learned from the Narayana Health approach.
