CARIAD to host Annual Workshop

By Caribbean Medical News Staff

From June 9 to 20, 2014 the Caribbean Institute on Alcoholism and other Drug Problems will be hosting its 40th annual Caribbean Institute on Alcoholism and other Drug Problems at the Crown Point Beach Hotel in Tobago.

The two week Basic Course targets professionals and other workers involved in alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment throughout the Caribbean. It provides a comprehensive overview of the biopsychosocio-cultural aetiology and management of alcoholism, drug abuse and other addictions; and the issues related to special sub-populations.

The unique setting of a live-in community of practice facilitates adult learning in an atmosphere that encourages the sharing of knowledge, experiences, challenges and best practice within the Caribbean region. The CARIAD faculty comprises regional experts and colleagues from internationally acclaimed alcohol and drug abuse facilities, representative of the multidisciplinary nature of addiction.

This year CARIAD’s 3-day Specialized workshop, designed for graduates of the Basic Course runs from June 17-19, 2014. The focus is on the need for, and development of an evidence-based alcohol policy for the reduction of alcohol-associated harm in the region. This workshop will generate a series of webinars intended to mobilize civil society to engage in meaningful dialogue aimed at driving regional alcohol policy action.
