Antigua & Barbuda Launches First Aid app

In a smart and bold attempt to bring about emergency response awareness amongst citizens Antiguans and Barbudans will now be able to learn about CPR and AED through a handy mobile application (app) launched by the Red Cross Society in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
Available for use on Android, iPhone, and iPad devices, the app is intended to provide residents with readily available vital first aid and CPR information, which they can access free of cost in the event of an emergency.
Jeff Martin, Director General of the Antigua & Barbuda Red Cross Society said it is the second of two mobile applications launched by the American Red Cross Society that was eventually introduced in countries around the world.
“It will give our citizens a first-hand look at what they can do in case of first aid just to assist themselves or someone else until the experts come,” said Mr Martin.
The app addressing everyday emergency situations including: choking, head injury, distress, allergies/anaphylaxis, asthma attack, bleeding, broken bone, burns, diabetic emergency, heart attack, hypothermia, meningitis, poisoning/harmful substances, seizure/epilepsy, strains and sprains among other ailments/situations.
Quizzes, tests and videos are also included to enlighten citizens on how to prepare and respond to an emergency situation. Also included in the app is a link which takes users to the Red Cross website where the can learn about the work and functions executed by the unit.
