Autopsy on 12 yr old suicide victim delayed

By Caribbean Medical News Staff
In an alleged suicide that shocked the nation, the autopsy on 12 year Shemar Weekes has been delayed an hour and a half through the procedure. According to police reports, the coroner is awaiting expertise not available on the island after “certain discoveries were made”.

According to reports in the Barbados press, the young student of Coleridge & Parry School was found hanging in the backyard of his residence in the northern part of the island.

Since then, rumours have been spreading like wild fire in the island as the public looks for answers as to why the young boy may have taken his own life at such a tender age.

Reports suggest that as a matter of procedure and protocol, the mother of the boy has been interviewed and collapsed while outside in autopsy room and was assisted by six police officers and a family friend who were on the scene.

Dr David Gaskin, pathologist remained tight-lipped while Coroner Manila Renee offered no comment.

Suicides in Barbados are somewhat rare and do happen but suicides in children are virtually unheard of and the public continues to ask why little Shemar allegedly took his own, short, life.
