Barbadian Canadians contribute health supplies to QEH

By Caribbean Medical News Staff
The Barbadian Diaspora in Canada has generously donated over $250 000 worth in supplies and medical equipment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). In responding to their generosity, the Ministry of Health has showered praises on the Bajan-Canadian sponsors.

Speaking at the Ministry’s headquarters in Jemmonts Lane, Consul General of Barbados at Toronto Haynesley Benn said: “This is an effort by Barbadian groups in Toronto which are interested in procuring medical supplies for Barbados’ Government. There are many Barbadians in Canada who work in the medical field and there are numerous alumni groups over there and every month they meet where representatives of each organisation form the Barbados Independence Celebrations Committee.”

“It was originally just a number of wheelchairs and other technical supplies for the QEH, but when we recognised the range of products available, we decided to deal with the Ministry of Health on a whole instead and have the items distributed throughout the various health institutions,” said Mr Benn.

In addition, Benn said that the committee partnered with the Mission for Advanced Theological Education/Friends committed to Caring.
