HSA Laboratory staff receives prestigious Caribbean awards

Two healthcare professionals at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) recently received 2015 Laboratory Awards from the Regional Council of Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET). Ms Sheilane Ricot was awarded Phlebotomist of the Region and Ms Marcia Robinson-Walters was awarded the Meritorious Award for Medical Technologist of the Region. Both Ms Ricot and Ms Robinson-Walters were recognised for their achievements in the areas of commitment to their profession and contribution to CASMET ventures.

Judith Clarke, Laboratory Manager at the HSA said she is honoured to have members of the Laboratory staff receive such prestigious awards. “I am proud of their dedication to their job and the high quality of service that Ms Ricot and Ms Robinson-Walters provide for our patients.”

Ms Ricot, HSA Phlebotomist, has worked at the HSA Laboratory for nine years. “I take great pride in my job and to receive recognition from my peers and win this award in the region was such a humbling experience,” she said.

Ms Robinson-Walters said she has always been fully dedicated to her career as a Medical Technologist and was elated to hear she had won this award. “Every day I strive to provide the best experience and care for our patients which is truly rewarding in itself. To have other professionals recognise me for my service, was truly a surprise and an honour,” said Ms Robinson-Walters.

Both Ms Ricot and Ms Robinson-Walters accepted their CASMET awards at the ceremony which took place in Suriname.

The CASMET Laboratory Awards formally recognise medical professionals who contribute to the development of the Medical Laboratory Technology in the Caribbean.
