T&T PM dismisses concerns about his health status

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has dismissed rumours about the state of his health, insisting that there is nothing to worry about since he is in good health.

“This country has been so accustomed to being lied to by its leaders that when you tell them the truth they can’t deal with it. It is exactly that, rumours and rumours are statements of a certain type,” Rowley said on a television programme on Wednesday.

“I was as open as any prime minister has ever been about my health but it seems as though many people would like to wish me a particular kind of health. There is a responsibility to differentiate between fact and lies.”

Rowley returned from the United States over the last weekend after attending a series of meetings in Texas with major oil companies and then proceeding on a week’s holidays.
He told viewers that prior to his departure he had informed the country that his doctors who had been monitoring him for two decades had seen changes in his health and he required a medical check-up.

“I have no intention of making my medical record public. I speak about it, but there is no requirement. I told you when I get the result I would let you know. I came back and fortunately and thankfully the results are that I am in good health and I have nothing to worry about,” he said.
