Two hospitals sue Cayman Islands for unpaid bills

By Caribbean Medical News Staff
Cayman Islands National Insurance Company (CINICO) is currently being sued by two Miami hospitals for unpaid medical bills.

The government owned insurance firm covers mainly public servants and residents who may have challenges getting coverage through private firms or through their employment.

University of Miami and Aventura Hospital have both filed suit and are claiming costs, interest and $1, 088,516.86 and $363,371.76 respectively from the insurance firm.

The lawsuit comes in the wake of allegations that the hospital provided services to CINICO’s clients (insured patients) but were never paid.

The lawsuits were recently filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida and allege “unjust enrichment” on the part of CINICO as well as breach of contract.
The hospitals are being represented by attorney Lorne Cabinsky.
