Chicken pox outbreak at Psychiatric Hospital

By Caribbean Medical News Staff

Acting Director of the Psychiatric Hospital in Barbados, David Leacock says that there is an outbreak of chicken pox at the lone Psychiatric Hospital.

In an interview with the press, he told the Country that he suspected that chicken pox had “come from the community” into the hospital.

To date, the disease is isolated to Ward C and the Acting Director said that relatives and friends of patients of Ward C had been notified.

He also indicated that the hospital would be on lock down to any visitors and a period of isolation was necessary so that infection would not spread.

A number of super bug outbreaks had already been reported at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Geriatric Hospital in recent years.
